About the game

Rise of Augustus (originally published as Augustus) has 2-6 players competing to complete objective cards by populating their symbols with legionnaire meeples drawn one at a time from a shared bag. Because the bag contains more of some symbols than others, the key skill lies in choosing which objectives to pursue among six dealt at the start and which of five available objectives to add each time one is completed. The first player to complete seven objectives wins, blending bingo-style anticipation with set collection and push-your-luck tension.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editors find this a breezy, bag-pull filler that scales impressively up to six players without losing its snappy pace. The shifting objective market adds a nice layer of decision-making atop what is fundamentally a luck-driven bingo mechanism. Experienced strategy gamers may find the luck of the draw limits how much control they truly have over the outcome.

What we like

  • Quick bag-pull mechanism accessible to all ages.
  • Supports large groups of up to six players.
  • Simple rules paired with meaningful objective-selection choices.
  • Fast-paced push-your-luck tension keeps rounds exciting.

Keep in mind

  • Significant luck element from bag draws.
  • Limited depth for experienced strategy gamers.
  • Ancient Rome theme feels thin and largely pasted on.

Who it's for

Great for families and casual groups of up to six players, including younger players who enjoy simple bag-pull and set-collection games.
