About the game
Campaign Trail is a card-driven strategy game for 1-6 players who campaign for the U.S. presidency, balancing fundraising, voter registration, advertising, rallies, and debates to win over key states. Each turn you play a card offering a choice among the game's six core actions, gradually building up money and voters while traveling the map to position for big campaign rallies. A unique candidate power gives every player an individual edge, and event cards let you build an engine of ongoing bonuses. At the end of the game, whoever wins the most states' electoral votes takes the presidency. It blends area-control-style scoring with resource-building strategy and a card-driven action economy.
Hobbli's Notes
Campaign Trail translates the machinery of a real presidential campaign into board game form surprisingly well, giving weight to fundraising, advertising, and travel decisions the way an actual campaign would feel. The card-driven action choices force real trade-offs each turn instead of an obvious best move. Its political theme is played fairly straight and mechanical rather than satirical, so groups looking for either a serious sim or a joke game about politics should know what they're getting.
What we like
- Card-driven action choices create meaningful trade-offs every turn.
- Individual candidate powers give each player a distinct strategy.
- Area-control electoral-vote scoring rewards regional focus.
- Supports a wide range of player counts from solo to six.
Keep in mind
- Political theme, even played straight, may not appeal to all groups.
- Longer playtime around two hours suits dedicated strategy nights best.
- Card-driven systems can have a learning curve for newcomers.
Who it's for
