About the game

Riff Raff is a dexterity game where two to four players carefully load bottles, sailors, rats, and other cargo onto a swaying wooden pirate ship. Each round, players secretly choose a numbered card, then simultaneously reveal it to determine turn order for placing their piece on the matching space. Load too much weight unevenly and the ship tips, sending cargo tumbling: anything you can't catch adds to your own pile of shame. The first player to unload all their pieces onto the ship wins.

Hobbli's Notes

There's real tension in watching the ship teeter as more cargo piles on, and the simultaneous card-reveal turn order adds a nice pinch of tactical timing to what's otherwise a pure balancing game. It's light and silly enough to work well with kids, though adult gamers looking for depth will find little beyond the physical challenge. A solid pick when you want something quick, tactile, and easy to teach at the table.

What we like

  • Simple, tactile rules make it instantly accessible to kids.
  • Physical balancing creates genuine suspense at the table.
  • Quick 30-minute playtime fits easily into any game night.
  • Playful pirate-ship theme adds charm for younger players.

Keep in mind

  • Limited strategic depth beyond steady hands.
  • Dexterity challenge can frustrate less physically coordinated players.
  • Replay value may fade quickly for adult gaming groups.

Who it's for

Great for families and casual groups with kids age 8+ who enjoy hands-on dexterity and balancing challenges.
