About the game
In Evo (Second Edition), players guide nomadic tribes and their symbiotic dinosaur mounts as they adapt to a harsh alien world. Through bidding on mutation genes, players evolve their creatures to survive shifting climates and out-compete rivals for territory. This edition streamlines combat and climate mechanics from the original Evo for smoother play. With variable player powers and unique special genes, no two games play quite the same.
Hobbli's Notes
Evo mixes light bidding with a satisfying evolutionary puzzle: deciding which traits to chase as the climate turns colder is a genuinely tense decision point. It's a bit fiddly to teach the first time given all the gene combinations, but once it clicks it's a fun mid-weight strategy game with a fun sci-fi/prehistoric theme.
What we like
- Unique evolution theme with genuine strategic bidding.
- Variable special genes keep games fresh.
- Streamlined climate and combat systems in this edition.
- Supports up to five players.
Keep in mind
- Rules overhead can be a lot for new players.
- Bidding mechanic may frustrate players who dislike auctions.
