About the game

Core Worlds is a sci-fi deck-building game where players lead barbarian star empires drafting units, tactics, and worlds from a shared central zone to build their fleets. Cards drafted into your deck stay with your empire permanently, and you'll deploy units to your Warzone to accumulate the Fleet Strength and Ground Strength needed to invade contested worlds. Each captured world adds ongoing bonuses and empire points, with the richest, most conquered empire declared the winner. It's a deck-building game with a heavier emphasis on drafting and empire-building than pure deck-thinning.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's team likes that Core Worlds distinguishes itself from other deck-builders through its drafting-into-permanent-deck structure and the added layer of invading worlds for lasting bonuses. It runs a bit longer than most deck-builders at two hours, rewarding players who enjoy planning several turns ahead. Sci-fi deck-builder fans looking for something meatier than the genre standard will find plenty to enjoy.

What we like

  • Deeper strategic layer than typical deck-builders.
  • Satisfying empire-growth and world-invasion mechanics.
  • Strong sci-fi theme and artwork.
  • Combines well with expansions for more variety.

Keep in mind

  • Two-hour playtime is long for the deck-building genre.
  • Can suffer from analysis paralysis with many drafting options.

Who it's for

Deck-building fans (ages 12+) who want a meatier sci-fi empire-building experience for 2-5 players.
