About the game
Villa Paletti challenges 2-4 budding architects to build a tower skyward by removing support columns from lower floors and stacking them on top: all without toppling the structure. Rolling a die determines how many columns you must move each turn, ratcheting up the tension as the tower grows. Designed for players aged 8 and up, this dexterity game plays in about 30 minutes and rewards a steady hand as much as a clear head. It won the Spiel des Jahres in 2002, cementing its place as a modern family classic.
Hobbli's Notes
A genuine crowd-pleaser: watching the tower wobble as someone pulls a low column is pure tabletop drama every time. The Spiel des Jahres pedigree is well earned; it's simple enough for kids but tense enough to keep adults leaning in.
What we like
- Award-winning design recognized with the Spiel des Jahres.
- Extremely simple rules that are easy to teach in minutes.
- Builds genuine tension as the tower grows taller.
- Great fit for mixed-age family game nights.
Keep in mind
- Requires a stable table and enough physical space.
- A collapse can eliminate the game's momentum quickly for the group.
- Limited strategic depth beyond steady hands and timing.
Who it's for
