About the game
20th Century casts players as nations racing to develop economically and scientifically while managing the environmental cost of progress. Over six rounds, you'll oversee urbanization, generate income and research, unlock new technologies, and work to avert ecological catastrophes as your land grows more industrialized. Points accumulate each round based on quality of life, with bonus scoring after rounds two and four, and a final tally based on income, research, and environmental health. Designed by Vladimír Suchý for 3-5 players, it's a meaty 120-minute economic engine-building game.
Hobbli's Notes
A thoughtful economic design from a designer known for tight engine-building systems: the tension between growth and environmental cost gives it a distinct identity among civilization-style games. It demands real strategic planning and won't suit players looking for a lighter evening.
