About the game
DVONN is an abstract strategy game played on an elongated hexagonal board with white, black, and neutral red pieces. Players first place all the pieces on the board, then take turns stacking and moving pieces, with any stack that loses contact with a red DVONN piece removed from play. When no more moves are possible, whoever controls the tallest stack wins, making every placement and stacking decision matter. Designed by Kris Burm as part of the GIPF Project, it's a pure, elegant abstract with no luck and no hidden information.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team admires DVONN for its stark elegance: a two-phase design (placement, then movement) that produces surprisingly deep positional battles from very simple rules. It rewards spatial thinking and the ability to plan several moves ahead, much like Go or chess. A superb choice for abstract strategy enthusiasts looking for something fresh.
