About the game

Expedition: Northwest Passage sends players in search of the lost Franklin Expedition, racing across the frozen Arctic in ships and sleds. Allocate crew members to explore, gather clues, and map the icy waters as advancing seasons freeze parts of the sea and block routes. Players earn victory points by mapping the area, gathering clues, and discovering the passage itself: but must also return home to Greenland in time to claim victory. This HMS Terror Edition brings historical Arctic exploration to life through tile-placement and action-point mechanics.

Hobbli's Notes

The race against a closing window, both the freezing sea and the need to make it home, gives Expedition real thematic tension beyond typical exploration games. It's a solid mid-weight tile-placement game with an evocative and unusual historical setting that most collections don't have.

What we like

  • Evocative and unusual Arctic exploration theme.
  • Race-against-the-clock tension from the freezing sea.
  • Solo mode available for one player.
  • Tile-placement map addition keeps each game's geography fresh.

Keep in mind

  • High downtime rating may slow pacing for some groups.
  • One-hour playtime with moderate complexity needs a focused group.

Who it's for

Good for exploration-game fans age 12+ in groups of 1-4 who enjoy tile-placement and set collection with a strong historical theme.
