About the game

Penguin Party has players collectively stack a pyramid of colorful penguin cards while racing to empty their own hand first. On your turn you extend the base or add a card higher up, provided it's supported by two penguins matching in color, all while managing risk of triggering a costly collapse. Designed by Reiner Knizia, it's a quick, tactile card game that rewards careful color-matching and hand management. The game explicitly resembles its predecessor Penguin, but with different components and card distribution.

Hobbli's Notes

Classic Knizia efficiency here: simple rules, quick plays, and just enough hand-management tension to keep repeat games interesting for kids and adults alike.

What we like

  • Fast 15-minute playtime fits easily into any game night.
  • Simple color-matching rules make it very easy to teach.
  • Designed by Reiner Knizia, ensuring tight, well-tuned mechanics.
  • Scales comfortably from two up to six players.

Keep in mind

  • Fairly light strategic depth compared to bigger hand-management games.
  • Similarity to its predecessor Penguin may cause confusion for collectors.
  • Physical pyramid-building can be finicky on uneven surfaces.

Who it's for

Great for families and children, ages 6 and up, in groups of two to six looking for a short, light card game.
