About the game

In Genoa, 2-5 players become Renaissance traders in a bustling city, moving through the streets to gather goods, fulfill delivery orders, and secure valuable privileges. Nearly everything in the game is negotiable, from goods to favors to movement, making every turn a fresh round of deal-making. Also known as The Traders of Genoa, it's part of the acclaimed Alea big box series. Cunning diplomacy and sharp trading instincts separate the richest merchants from the rest.

Hobbli's Notes

Genoa is one of the great negotiation-heavy Euro games: almost nothing is fixed, which makes for incredible table dynamics if your group enjoys open trading. It demands a talkative, deal-hungry table and rewards players who can read the room. Not for the faint of heart or the conflict-averse, but a classic for good reason.

What we like

  • Nearly everything is negotiable, creating deep, emergent strategy.
  • Rich player interaction through trading and bribery.
  • Rewards clever deal-making over pure luck or optimization.
  • A celebrated design from the acclaimed Alea series.

Keep in mind

  • Long, heavy downtime especially with more players.
  • Negotiation-heavy play can alienate more reserved players.
  • Rules and scoring can feel dense for newcomers.
