About the game

Cleopatra and the Society of Architects is a family strategy game from Days of Wonder in which 3-5 players compete to build the most magnificent sections of Cleopatra's palace using genuine three-dimensional pieces. Players bid, roll dice, and manage hands to acquire building materials, sometimes dealing with shady traders for a competitive edge. Taking shortcuts earns Corruption Amulets, and the most corrupt architect risks being sacrificed to Cleopatra's crocodile at game's end. It's a push-your-luck balance between ambition and risk as the palace rises turn by turn.

Hobbli's Notes

This is a charming, tactile family game elevated by its genuinely 3D palace construction, which Hobbli's editorial team finds delightfully novel. The corruption mechanic adds a fun push-your-luck wrinkle to what's otherwise a straightforward building and set-collection game. It's accessible enough for families but has enough decision points to keep adult gamers engaged too. The Days of Wonder production quality shines through in the components.

What we like

  • Unique 3D palace-building components.
  • Push-your-luck corruption mechanic adds tension.
  • Accessible rules suit families and casual groups.
  • Strong production values typical of Days of Wonder.

Keep in mind

  • Higher downtime with more players.
  • Bidding and auction elements may slow the pace.
  • Luck of the dice affects material availability.

Who it's for

Great for families and groups of 3-5 (10+) who enjoy building games, light bidding, and a dash of push-your-luck risk.
