About the game

The Quacks of Quedlinburg: The Duel adapts Wolfgang Warsch's beloved push-your-luck bag-building game into a tense head-to-head experience for exactly two players. As rival quack doctors, you'll draw ingredient chips from your bag to brew potions in the market square, knowing every choice directly affects your opponent as much as yourself. Building your bag over the game strengthens your reputation with the Guild, but pushing your luck too far can bust your cauldron. With sharp two-player interaction layered onto the familiar bag-building formula, it's a worthy standalone duel version of a modern classic.

Hobbli's Notes

Turning Quacks into a two-player-only duel is a smart move, the direct interaction between opponents adds a layer of tension the original's multiplayer format didn't have. Fans of the original will feel right at home with the bag-building and push-your-luck tension, and newcomers get a tight, fast-playing entry point. It won't replace the original for larger groups, but as a two-player game it's excellent.

What we like

  • Faithful, well-tuned two-player adaptation of a hit design.
  • Push-your-luck bag-building remains satisfying and tense.
  • Fast setup and moderate playtime at 60 minutes.
  • Direct two-player interaction sharpens the tension.

Keep in mind

  • Being two-player only limits its use for larger groups.
  • Players unfamiliar with the original may want to try it first.
  • Push-your-luck busts can feel harsh to risk-averse players.

Who it's for

Perfect for two players who enjoy push-your-luck and bag-building games, from casual couples to serious hobbyists ages 10+.
