About the game

Red Outpost places one to four players in charge of a secretive Soviet space colony, guiding settlers through farming, industry, and worker morale on an alien world. Each turn, players control all of the settlers in some capacity, carefully assigning jobs while managing scarce resources and keeping morale from collapsing. It combines worker placement with area majority for resource control across the colony, with games running about 60 minutes. Balancing productivity against settler happiness is the central tension throughout.

Hobbli's Notes

The retro-Soviet space colony theme is a fun departure from typical sci-fi settings, and the morale-management layer adds a nice extra wrinkle to standard worker placement. We appreciate that the game supports solo play alongside its multiplayer mode. It's a moderate-weight game that should click quickly for players already comfortable with worker placement and area control. It's a lesser-known title, so go in expecting solid mechanics rather than a flashy production.

What we like

  • Distinctive Soviet space colonization theme.
  • Combines worker placement with area majority mechanics.
  • Includes a solo mode.
  • Morale management adds a unique strategic layer.

Keep in mind

  • Retro-futuristic theme may not appeal to everyone.
  • Worker placement conflicts can block planned strategies.
  • Moderate downtime while players plan routes.
