About the game

Last Aurora is a post-apocalyptic race-against-time game where survivors of a frozen, irradiated wasteland must reach the last icebreaker ship before winter seals their fate. Players manage a crew to gather resources, recruit survivors, upgrade their vehicle, and fend off enemies using hand management and worker placement. With 1-4 players competing to reach the Aurora first, tension builds as the clock ticks down on a bleak, atmospheric setting. It earned a 2021 Dice Tower Seal of Excellence for its thematic execution.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editors appreciate how Last Aurora layers a genuinely bleak, evocative theme onto solid worker-placement and hand-management fundamentals. The race structure keeps tension high throughout, and the solo mode holds up well. It's a satisfying mid-weight game for groups who enjoy thematic survival racing without excessive rules overhead.

What we like

  • Strong, bleak post-apocalyptic atmosphere.
  • Solid worker placement and hand management fundamentals.
  • Race structure keeps tension high throughout the game.
  • Solid solo mode alongside multiplayer.

Keep in mind

  • Race-to-the-finish structure can feel punishing if you fall behind early.
  • Theme may be too grim for lighter game nights.
  • Some fiddly resource tracking during setup and play.
