About the game

Pax Transhumanity imagines a hopeful, non-dystopian future in which humanity solves its greatest problems by expanding into the developing world, the cloud, and space. Players use hidden victory points, a shared market, and pattern-based scoring to guide human progress, working toward a sudden-death ending that can close the game out unexpectedly. Multi-use cards and worker placement actions let players pursue different visions of what a better future looks like. The game rewards recognizing and completing patterns before rivals do, tying its optimistic theme to genuinely tense endgame timing.

Hobbli's Notes

Like other games in the Pax series, Transhumanity trades a straightforward rules explanation for a dense, interlocking system that rewards repeated plays and careful study of its abstract mechanisms. The optimistic sci-fi theme is a refreshing change from the genre's usual dystopian defaults, though the hidden victory point and sudden-death systems mean the ending can catch newer players off guard. This is very much a game for experienced strategy gamers willing to wrestle with a challenging rulebook.

What we like

  • Refreshingly optimistic science-fiction theme departs from typical dystopian settings.
  • Hidden victory points keep standings uncertain until the very end.
  • Sudden-death ending mechanism creates real endgame tension.
  • Supports solo play for strategy fans without a group.
  • Multi-use cards allow for flexible, adaptive strategies.

Keep in mind

  • Dense, abstract mechanisms can present a steep learning curve.
  • Hidden scoring may frustrate players who prefer transparent standings.
  • Thematic implementation can feel abstracted from the mechanics for some players.
