About the game

Metro X is a fast-playing roll-and-write game where players build competing subway networks by filling in station spaces on their individual sheets. Cards reveal numbers, circled numbers, stars, or open circles that determine how each player extends their subway lines, with bonuses for completing routes first and for stations where multiple lines intersect. Every player acts simultaneously, so there's no downtime between turns, and games wrap up in about 20 minutes. It's an elegant puzzle of route-building and quick decision-making for solo players or full tables of six.

Hobbli's Notes

Metro X delivers a lot of clever puzzle-solving in a tiny package -- deciding which line to extend and when to chase the bigger bonus versus playing it safe keeps every card draw meaningful. Its simultaneous, no-downtime structure makes it ideal even at higher player counts, which is rare for the genre. A great low-commitment pick for roll-and-write fans or as a quick opener/closer to a game night.

What we like

  • Simultaneous play eliminates downtime even with six players.
  • Quick, elegant puzzle of route-building and scoring bonuses.
  • Strong solo mode for a satisfying single-player experience.
  • Fast 20-minute playtime makes it an easy addition to any session.

Keep in mind

  • Requires printing or buying new sheets for repeated play (consumable component).
  • Limited player interaction beyond simultaneous scoring races.
