About the game
Reykholt is a worker-placement farming game set in an Icelandic town where geothermal energy makes it possible to grow tropical vegetables. Across a series of scenarios, players place workers to cultivate crops, fulfill tourist orders, and expand their farming operations before the short growing season ends. It includes a built-in campaign structure with escalating scenarios, plus a dedicated solo mode. From designer Uwe Rosenberg, it offers a lighter, more approachable take on his signature farming-game style.
Hobbli's Notes
Reykholt is a great entry point into Uwe Rosenberg's farming games, trading some of the complexity of Agricola or Caverna for a more approachable scenario-driven structure. The escalating campaign gives a real sense of progression across sessions, which is a nice twist on the usual worker-placement formula. Its strong solo mode makes it a great pick even for players without a regular group. Recommended for players who enjoy methodical, resource-optimization gameplay.
What we like
- Scenario-based campaign gives a satisfying sense of progression.
- Strong, well-developed solo mode.
- More approachable complexity than Rosenberg's heavier farming games.
- Charming, unusual Icelandic farming theme.
Keep in mind
- Long campaign structure requires a real time commitment across sessions.
- Worker placement contention can create some downtime at higher counts.
- May feel too similar to other Rosenberg titles for genre veterans.
Who it's for
Good for strategy gamers aged 12 and up who enjoy worker placement and farming themes, solo or in groups up to 4.
