About the game
Valley of the Kings: Afterlife casts players as Egyptian nobles preparing for death and burial in the valley of the kings. Using a deck-building system built around a 'crumbling pyramid,' players buy cards from a shrinking market to fill their tombs with jewelry, weapons, and treasures before they disappear. The player who assembles the most valuable tomb wins. As a standalone game, it can also be combined with the original Valley of the Kings for larger groups.
Hobbli's Notes
The crumbling-pyramid twist on deck-building creates a real sense of urgency that standard deck-builders lack. A strong choice for fans of the genre looking for something with a bit more bite, and it holds up well solo.
What we like
- The shrinking-market pyramid mechanic adds real tension to deck-building.
- Strong solo mode makes it a good single-player option.
- Can be combined with the original Valley of the Kings for added depth.
- Thematic Egyptian tomb-building setting is nicely realized.
Keep in mind
- Deck-building fans who dislike time pressure may find the pyramid stressful.
- Somewhat abstract theme integration compared to top-tier deck-builders.
- Limited standalone content without the original game.
Who it's for
Deck-building fans, 1 to 4 players, medium complexity, including solo players.
