About the game
Tragedy Looper is a unique scenario-based deduction game pitting one mastermind against a team of protagonists trying to prevent scripted tragedies from unfolding. Each "day," both sides play cards affecting characters' stats and locations, and when a tragedy triggers, time loops back so the protagonists can apply what they've deduced. Players must work out hidden roles and hidden triggers through repeated attempts within a limited number of loops. Its time-loop structure creates a tense, cerebral battle of logic and hidden information.
Hobbli's Notes
Tragedy Looper's time-loop deduction is genuinely unlike anything else on the shelf - watching the protagonists slowly crack the mastermind's script is immensely satisfying. It demands a patient group willing to embrace failure as part of the deduction process. A must-try for logic-puzzle fans and mystery lovers, though it's not for the faint of heart.
What we like
- Innovative time-loop structure creates a genuinely fresh deduction experience.
- Deep replayability through many different scripted scenarios.
- Rewards careful logical deduction over luck.
- Strong asymmetric tension between mastermind and protagonists.
Keep in mind
- Long playtime with significant downtime for some players.
- Steep learning curve and heavy rules overhead.
- One mismatched or confused mastermind can derail a session.
Who it's for
Best for 2-4 players aged 13+ who enjoy heavy deduction and hidden-role games and don't mind a long, cerebral playtime.
