About the game

Compounded casts players as competing lab managers racing to complete chemical compounds before rivals beat them to it: or before volatile compounds explode in their faces. Players gather elements through trading, negotiation, and a bit of press-your-luck tension, since some compounds grow more dangerous the longer they sit unfinished. Free trading of elements, tools, and favors between players is central to the game, rewarding those who can strike sharp deals. With four to five players and a 90-minute runtime, it's a social, negotiation-heavy game wrapped in an unusual chemistry-lab theme.

Hobbli's Notes

Compounded stands out for daring to build a full negotiation game around a chemistry classroom theme, and the trading is where it really shines: deals feel consequential when a compound might explode at any moment. It's best enjoyed with a talkative group willing to lean into open trading and social maneuvering. The theme is a fun novelty, though the mechanics themselves sit comfortably within familiar trading-game territory.

What we like

  • Unusual, memorable chemistry-lab theme.
  • Strong open trading and negotiation gameplay.
  • Press-your-luck tension from unstable compounds.
  • Encourages lots of social interaction at the table.

Keep in mind

  • Explosions can undo careful planning, which may frustrate some.
  • Needs a larger group of four or more to shine.
  • 90-minute playtime with a fair amount of downtime for a trading game.
  • Theme may be off-putting or dry for some players.
