About the game

TransAmerica is a simple railway connection game where each player has five cities strung across the U.S. that must be linked by rail. Players place their station, then lay one or two rail pieces each turn, starting adjacent to their own network but eventually building anywhere along the combined network of all players. The game ends the instant one player completes their full connected route, rewarding those who cleverly leverage everyone else's rails alongside their own. It's a light, elegant race with just enough tension to stay engaging.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli appreciates TransAmerica as a lightweight gateway to route-building games: the rules are minimal, but the shared-network twist creates real decisions about when to build for yourself versus when to piggyback on others. It's not a deep strategic experience, but it's a great quick filler for mixed groups, including newer gamers.

What we like

  • Simple, elegant rules that teach in minutes.
  • Clever tension between building your own routes and using opponents' rails.
  • Scales well from 2 to 6 players.
  • Quick 30-minute playtime suits filler slots.

Keep in mind

  • Relatively low strategic depth for veteran gamers.
  • Can feel anticlimactic since it ends the instant one player connects.
  • Less thematic engagement compared to modern train games.

Who it's for

Great for families and casual groups of 2-6, ages 13+, wanting a simple, quick route-building game.
