About the game

Lancaster sends players into 1413 England, where ambitious noble families vie to become the young King Henry V's most valuable ally. Each turn, players send knights to compete for rewards in the counties, gather income and reinforcements at the castle, or contribute to the war effort against France. A clever worker-strength mechanic means placing a stronger knight can bump a weaker rival out of a contested location, creating constant tactical tension. Meanwhile, a parliament phase lets players vote on laws that shape the whole game's economy. It's a mid-weight worker-placement design with real teeth, from designer Matthias Cramer.

Hobbli's Notes

Lancaster remains one of the most satisfying worker-placement games of its generation thanks to that knight-strength displacement mechanic: it keeps every placement decision meaningful right to the end. The parliament voting adds a layer of shared strategy that's rare in the genre. It's a touch fiddly to teach at first, but the payoff is a game with real bite and interaction. A strong pick for groups who like their euro games with some conflict built in.
