About the game
A trick-taking game for exactly three players using twelve numbered discs (six red, six black) instead of cards. It's a 'may-follow' game where players draft the discs played to each trick back into their own hands, with the trick winner keeping a disc face-up out of play and losers taking their discs back face-down. Scoring rewards accumulating points, but a total of 21 or more halves your score, adding a tense push-your-luck balance. The game ends once a player runs out of discs to play.
Hobbli's Notes
12 Chip Trick offers a clever spin on trick-taking by having players recycle played discs back into their hands rather than discarding them, which creates unusual tactical depth for such a small game. Its strict three-player requirement is a real limitation, but within that structure it plays fast and tight. At only 20 minutes, it's a great filler for trick-taking fans looking for something different. The scoring cap (halving at 21+) adds a nice risk-management layer.
What we like
- Unique disc-recycling twist on traditional trick-taking.
- Fast 20-minute playtime ideal as a filler.
- Push-your-luck scoring cap adds tension.
- Compact, portable components.
Keep in mind
- Requires exactly three players, limiting group flexibility.
- Niche release with very little community data or reviews.
- Simple components may feel underwhelming to some collectors.
Who it's for
Best for exactly three players aged 8+ who enjoy trick-taking card (or in this case disc) games and quick filler experiences.
