About the game
Pandemic: Fall of Rome transports the beloved cooperative Pandemic system to the collapse of the Roman Empire. Players take on unique roles to recruit legions, fortify cities, and negotiate with invading tribes such as the Goths, Vandals, and Huns. Collecting matching tribe cards lets you convert barbarian units into loyal Roman soldiers, while events threaten to accelerate the empire's decline. A robust solo mode lets one player command multiple roles to hold the line alone.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editorial team loves how this entry reinvents the classic Pandemic formula with alliance-building and conversion mechanics instead of simple disease cure hunting. It retains the tense, collaborative decision-making the series is known for while adding fresh historical flavor. Newcomers to Pandemic games will find it approachable, while series veterans will appreciate the new twists.
What we like
- Clever conversion mechanic adds fresh strategic depth to the Pandemic formula.
- Strong cooperative tension as tribes threaten to overwhelm Rome.
- Solid solo mode for series fans playing alone.
- Variable player roles add asymmetric replayability.
Keep in mind
- Can suffer from a dominant 'quarterback' player in group play.
- Familiarity with base Pandemic mechanics helps but isn't required to enjoy it.
Who it's for
Great for cooperative-game fans aged 8+ and Pandemic series lovers; scales well from solo to five players, ideal for family and game groups alike.
